On this Father’s Day, I have been thinking about the upcoming Writing Parenthood workshops which begin again on the evening of Tuesday 3rd July 2012 and will be taught by Creative Writes (organised with Writing Parents).
Following the launch in March of this year – which is blogged about here – it will allow mums and dads to gather together and write about the experience of being parents. There will also be the option to explore fiction along this theme.
The fast paced, free flow writing exercises don’t allow us much time to think and it is often surprising to see the results when we aren’t censoring our words. It is always a pleasure and privilege to hear the work read aloud during the workshops but there is no pressure to do so.
You could try some of these exercises as a child or parent:
- Write ‘I remember’ for ten minutes (thinking about a parent or a child) and try not to stop writing or think too much!
- Describe a photo that features a parent & child (you don’t have to be looking at this photo, you can imagine it). If it goes off into fiction that is fine!
Have the above exercises whet your appetite? Take a look at this site for info on all Creative Writes workshops, which include; Writing Parenthood, Myriad of Objects, Women’s Writes & Masterclasses!
