Sharing words
I was going to blog something else today but I have been thinking a great deal about conversations and their importance. A writer friend recently suggested that we email each other free writes along a particular theme that was relevant in our lives at the time. Over the weeks, it has become a very valuable experience. We have naturally moved on from the original theme and have continued to respond to eachother. It is a great privilege to gain insight into someones thoughts, memories and daily experiences. I often feel this way when I listen to participants read their work aloud during the creative writing workshops. I am really enjoying having the opportunity to respond and be ignited and inspired through this exchange. I may even try this out at workshops!
Try This: Suggest to a friend that you share and respond to eachothers free flows. Sticking to the non-feedback rule will make it easier to write without worry. It is also a good idea to set a ten minute time limit on each free flow and keep to the rules of no editing etc!
I have also been listening to Radio 4 and The Listening Project:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/player/p00vkzsl It is a series of conversations which are themed under different categories such as Love, Friendship & Health and it is really interesting to have a taste of people’s lives and listen to the way they respond to each other.
