| Hieroglyphic stones |
Next week, I hope to use the poetry stones (pictured above and here) during my workshops. Well, they aren’t actually intended to be poetry stones – I discovered them in the British Museum shop after seeing their incredible Life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibition last week. I immediately thought they would make perfect poetry stones with the words happiness, love, wealth and wise. Or more specifically,we could write potions/wishes/recipes for each. As you can see from this photo, the stones have the hieroglyphics for each word on the other side.
Try this: Pick one of the four words from the stones, as listed above – or add your own words (perhaps to describe an emotion) and write a potion/wish poetry/recipe. Think about what you need for each of these. For example, what do you need for happiness or to be wise? As always, set your clock for ten minutes and try not to think too much.
