Dinner & writing by Leluu at Creative Writes workshop in London Fields, 22 May 2012
It’s been an exciting few weeks for Creative Writes, running new workshops and forging partnerships.
There has been the ‘Chance’ themed workshop at the British Library, which was part of the ‘Write Around the Monopoly Board’ series for Mendham Writers. We had an exciting time – taking our characters on journeys determined by our own chance cards and dice throwing! www.mendhamwriters-com
The first of the Creative Writes themed workshops was ‘Secrets & Lies’ and got off to a great start at North Bank, Muswell Hill. We wrote our own memories/stories and then I guided the group through a series of timed exercises where they altered their work to create dramatic pieces of fiction. We shared secrets and reminded ourselves that as writers we have licence to lie! The next themed workshop is Creating Character on Sunday 3rd June and includes a walk around Muswell Hill for real life character observation. Contact me for info.
There have been two new Chewsdays workshops at Leluu’s supper club venue in London Fields, with delicious meals – see photo above for yesterday’s dinner! We were joined last week (15 May) by LJ from the N10 Radio show, check it out online. We plan to run Chewsdays on a regular basis, so let me know if you would like info.
The one-to one workshops are going really well – here are some words from Anna:
‘I have been lucky enough to spend some 1-1 time with Nichola and it has been a revelation. I have been wanting to write for ages – not with a particular goal but just to be more creative and start to see if I could! Nichola’s approach really let’s you – sometimes nicely forces you! – to just start writing, no criticism, no agenda, and although I thought I would want direction and criticism, what it has done is allow me to write without constantly censoring myself. I have been amazed by what comes out, by how exciting the process is and by just how much I am enjoying myself. Whatever happens I am so pleased to have found Nichola and this approach, and to have unlocked something that is so creatively enjoyable.’

Now that Creative Writes is pretty much full time, it has allowed me the opportunity to develop new partnerships and build on existing ones. I have met with Rochelle Scholar from Mendham Writers, to plan ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ Workshops around London, Chris Meade from the if:book cafe in Hornsey Library to plan our Nearly Writing Event in Crouch End and Frances Bildner (founder of Creative Whizz Kids), to talk about a writing/painting collaboration!
A new Creative Writes video was also shot, by my sister Martine Charalambou – so watch this space!
