Enjoy focussed writing time with just the two of us!

I mentioned in my recent Creative Writes newsletter that I have had an increased number of Masterclasses (the adult Masterclasses are one to one, for one or two hours). The group workshops are also blossoming but I do find this shift interesting. Many of you have decided that now is the time. Now is the time to dedicate to developing your ideas – perhaps the novel that at the moment consists of several notebooks or scribbles on the back of envelopes, or it’s those ideas still swimming around your head. Some of you have never attended a creative writing workshop before and you prefer the idea of starting with a one to one so that you can identify what it is you need to focus on. Some of you have a personal story that you want to tell and you feel more comfortable with doing this in a more private environment.

The Creative Writes techniques are put into practice whether it be a small group workshop or a one to one –  I guide you through a series of fast paced creative writing exercises which cover a range of tools and techniques. Content includes character work, observational exercises, plotting your story, setting, how to write memoir, poetry and developing our descriptive language. During a Masterclass, because it is just you and me – we have a chat about where you are at with your writing and what you would you like to spend your class time on. I then apply a series of specific exercises which maximise the writing time and get you to where you want to be. You call the shots.

What are you thinking?
Tell me what you think…
What projects are you working on/thinking about? Where would you like to go? Have you been to a one to one Masterclass with me or elsewhere – what is the difference between this and a group workshop? Please add your comments to this blog post.

Try this…
My brain is buzzing with ideas for my own writing and for the new Creative Writes workshops. If I don’t note them down quickly, it is really difficult to remember them later. Is your brain buzzing with creative ideas? Spend ten minutes writing as soon as possible ‘What I really want to write is…’ Set your clock for ten minutes. Try not to think too much, just write!

I will be in Greece for the last two weeks of August on a writing retreat, capturing those ideas that have been buzzing around my head. I will also be attending an autobiography workshop, so I promise to come back with lots of ideas to share with you.

Questions please…
If you have any questions on the Creative Writes Masterclasses or group workshops, please ask! Our Bookings & Workshop Info page lists the updated programme: https://www.creativewrites.co.uk/p/bookings-workshop-info-how-to-book.html As you will see, the programme includes a new package for two hour Masterclasses, Themed Workshops in Muswell Hill, Blogs Etc Workshops at the Clissold Arms pub in East Finchley/Muswell Hill and the new block of four Workshops for Adults at Pickled Pepper Books in Crouch End. The children’s Blotted Ink Workshops at Pickled Pepper start again in September too.

If you have any questions when I am away, my Assistant will be checking emails and administering bookings.

Enjoy the rest of your Summer!
