It has continued to be busy over here at the Creative Writes headquarters…

After the Words Over Waltham Forest Festival, I started working with the Kingston Carers Group and it has been worth every second of the long commute! There is nothing I enjoy more than working with open minded writers – bravely sharing their stories. It is great to embark on a journey together. Exercises have included work with objects that have meant something to us, writing from inspirational quotes, remembering lies – changing tenses to see how different it feels writing in the present tense and now we are thinking more about our own past and parents. TRY THIS: Imagine your parents together before you were born. Where are they? Are they on holiday, at a party – happy or arguing? To get you started, you could write ‘I remember’ and if you have a photo to inspire you – use this too. Set your clock for ten minutes and go!

On Thursday evening, I attended a Cocoa Club event for the first time, which I really enjoyed. Sarolta and Tom gave us a warm welcome and there was engaging conversation and a stimulating exchange of ideas all evening. The focus is on creative thinking and sharing. It was also great to be back with my London Lapidus group on Saturday – where we took part in writing exercises and discussion. Alison Clayburn led us into writing about objects – using oranges and teaspoons, with fantastic results! Writing is always full of surprises.

I am gearing up to the Creative Writes Myriad of Objects Workshop on Wednesday 11 December, 7.30-9.30pm in Muswell Hill, N10 where we will indulge in a range of inspirational fast paced exercises. Some places are already booked so if you wish to join us, please book asap.

Places are also filling up for the block of three January 2014 workshops in Muswell Hill on Wednesday evenings. The workshops are open to everybody – whether you are new to Creative Writes and creative writing, or coming back for more & a kick start to the New Year! We will cover a range of content in a non critical, supportive environment.

The Early Bird offer for the Sutton House March 2014 Saturdays is open until December 31st. It is difficult to find a more inspiring historic venue than this wonderful Tudor treasure in Hackney (National Trust). Join us to discover & create new stories.
