The group scribbling away at Creative Writes Summer Surgery on Saturday

Hello & welcome back to our blog!

I am a little behind on the blogging, due to a rather busy month of June so far…

This Saturday saw the first Creative Writes Summer Surgery in Muswell Hill. 

There were different writing stations set up around the inspiring Oak room – including the Nature Table, which you can see here. The group were able to try out a range of ideas, inspired by the objects and lists of exercises. I received this email after the workshop from one of the group members: 

I just wanted to say thank you for an amazing workshop on Saturday. I feel inspired and I enjoyed every moment at North Bank. KP, Summer Surgery participant.

It was wonderful to see the writing evolve over the three hour workshop and be a part of the respectful listening & powerful atmosphere, as the group shared their work. 

 







Adult Learners Week Workshop


Last week, I also delivered a creative writing workshop for Adult Learners Week – which was great fun. We focussed on overheard conversations & dialogue and this comment was sent in from a participant before I had even made it home:

Just wanted to say how brilliant the Creative Writing session was this week. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be keeping an eye out for Adult Learners Week next year! 


This week,  I begin my 6 week block of workshops with the C&C (Central & Cecil) Sheltered Housing Venue across the river, where I recently delivered Taster Workshops for a group of older people. The new series of workshops is called Sharing Stories, with the focus on life writing. I am very much looking forward to developing my relationship further with the group and working with them to share more of their rich stories.

Next week, I will begin my new teaching post at the vibrant and welcoming Claremont Centre in Angel for older people. I have been able to spend some time with the group and current tutor this month, which has been a privilege. I look forward to settling in over the summer, during my weekly morning workshop. 

Next week also marks the beginning of my series of Taster Workshops in Care homes for C&C. The workshops are part of their Bringing the Outside In project and I will be delivering poetry workshops. Care Homes are a new area of work for me and I have been thinking about different approaches to working with a wide range of residents. I have been thinking about ways to interact and engage with those in the advanced stages of dementia. I have been talking to friends & colleagues working in the field, aswell as starting to meet some of the wonderful staff & residents at C&C. I look forward to updating you. 

Next at Creative Writes…

This Wednesday 25 June, it’s back to North Bank house & gardens in Muswell Hill for our Themed Colourful Writes Workshop, 7.30-9.30pm. We will spend some time outside – being inspired by the colours of Nature. 


July brings our Creative Writes Summer Tuesdays, where we will write for three summer evenings  – experimenting with lots of different writing tools & developing our style and confidence. As with most Creative Writes Workshops, we will begin with our own stories. Tuesdays 15, 22 & 29 July, 7.30-9.30pm, North Bank, Muswell Hill.
