Connect/Disconnect

Time to reflect…

Highgate Wood & Parkland Walk – Walk & Write

Here we are, still shaping our new world

At Creative Writes, we are enjoying the variety that each week brings, with our online and in person workshops – along with facilitating in the Community and Corporate workshops/events. There’s also the Community Engagement freelance work for the wonderful heritage site – The Charterhouse, EC1.

We’ve previously blogged about Connection and it remains a prevalent Theme for us, especially in these extraordinary & historic times. Our writing workshops have been providing time and space to engage with this. Where do we find connection? Who with and where? Are there particular environments where we feel the most connected? What about interests and hobbies? We also explored the flipside –  disconnect.

Here’s a note from a participant at a recent Creative Writes workshop along the Theme of Connection / Disconnect

What a wonderful session it was on Wednesday. I found the theme very powerful and moving, thank you! EH

Space to Write online workshop – Creative Writes

William Sieghart addresses the need for connection in his book The Poetry Pharmacy Returns: More Prescriptions for Courage, Healing and Hope;

As I have realized in my time on the road over these past two years – and as I have been told even by priests and vicars – we need something that can stand in the place of the liturgies that many of us in this secular society, have increasingly left behind. Without that connection, both with each other and with our own sense of wonder, with everything that our everyday speech doesn’t quite feel able to express, is it any surprise that more and more of us are feeling lost, lonely and adrift?

Sieghart then talks about the importance of poetry in his life – including when he was growing up a lonely child. We of course at Creative Writes have seen how our writing and words connect us. Especially when we write together and share our words. Poetry can speak to our truths and echo our own voice.

Try this!

Free flow a list of people/places/activities where you feel/have felt the most connection. Then try this with the Theme of Disconnect. Set your clock for 5 minutes on each and then choose one from both lists to elaborate on – 10 mins on Connection and 10 mins on Disconnect.

Whether we are bringing our Writing Community together online or in person, we feel a strong sense of connection at Creative Writes.

Creative Writes was founded in 2009 out of a need for a Writing Community, for connection in a supportive environment – where the focus wasn’t on critique but on the joy of words & writing.

Creative Writes – Writers reading – Walk & Write Workshop, West Lodge Park

We now offer Creative Writes group workshops outside (Walk & Write monthly workshops in North London), inside (Words & Wine Seasonal In Person Workshops in Muswell Hill, N10) and online (weekly Space to Write Monday afternoons and monthly Words & Wine Wednesday evenings).

Still loving what we do!
