Enjoying the snow! French Alps- January 2015

Happy New Year!

I hope 2015 has started well for you. 

I have just returned from the French Alps. It was beautiful. There were times when the landscape looked as if it has been painted on. The air was incredibly clean and invigorating. I got to write, read, daydream, spend quality time with my friend, go for inspiring walks, ride cable cars to gape at the view and indulge in wonderful food & drink. 

Among all of this, there was however – a reality check. 

In the middle of our holiday – the French News & Social Media informed us that the offices of Charlie Hebdo in Paris had been attacked and people killed. Then the ‘Je Suis Charlie’ slogan appeared on a screen in the hotel. The news was on constantly in the reception area and we all know what followed later in the week.

I started teaching again today and the groups were struggling to get back into the rhythm of writing after the long break. I shared some of the inspiration from my trip to trigger new writing and we also wrote our wishes for 2015 – using my ‘poetry stones.’ As a group member commented – it was a powerful beginning. 

Amidst the tragedy and horrors flashing on the screens in front of me in France, I was acutely aware that there is so little we can truly control. So live it. Live your life. Make your mark, however gently you tread.

In the first of our Themed Workshops, on Wednesday 28th January – we will be inspired by Winter and I will share some gems from the French Alps. I will guide you through a series of fast paced creative writing exercises. The Themed Workshops will continue on the last Wednesday of each month.

The first block of three Wednesday evening workshops for 2015 will be in February (4, 11 & 18 Feb, 7.30pm).

Our next Motivational Writing Surgery is on Saturday 28th March, 2-5pm and follows the success of our Summer Surgery. There will be a range of work stations, where you can try different exercises. We will work individually and in pairs/small groups.

Masterclasses and Skype workshops run all year.
