Happy New Year!
Here’s to a wonderful, creative 2018.
We had a busy 2017 here at Creative Writes, with a range of creative writing workshops. We launched Words & Wine, which proved very popular. These workshops are held at an inspiring private residence in Muswell Hill, N10 and there is much laughter along with scribbling, wine, cheese & chocs!
We are delighted to announce that 2018 is theYear of The Story here at Creative Writes. To celebrate, all of our group Workshop are being offered at £25 for the first part of the year. Workshops are small, supportive, motivational and tailor-made.
This includes Words & Wine – which is now available to book here on the website, Themed Workshops and Blogs Etc, which will all start in February 2018. Links are below.
Writing is all about telling a story – whether it be truth or fiction, poetry or prose. Here at Creative Writes – we take you by the hand and guide you through different way of telling your story. We provide a supportive, non – judgemental workshop environment which gives you time and space to write. This is how we came up with Year of the Story and we would be delighted if you could join us on this journey.
In addition to our Creative Writes Workshops in Muswell Hill, we are working on some exciting new community projects this year, including Richmond Theatre and Blind Aid. I ran my first creative writing workshop at Richmond Theatre this week and it was incredibly exciting! I love the theatre, I always have done. It’s such an honour to be able to enter into this magical world and explore. As we run the workshops in the morning, the theatre is quiet and it feels like we have it all to ourselves. We are taking inspiration from the intriguing building and its stories. If you wish to join us, the theatre are happy for newcomers to come along next week – which will be the second of six workshops. Drop me an email and I will let you know how to book via the theatre. The workshops are 11am-1pm on Tuesdays.
I have also been developing my work in Care Homes. We’ve been looking at the poetry of Alice Oswald from ‘Weeds & Wild Flowers.’ It’s a beautiful book, with etchings by Jessica Greenman and the groups are really engaged when we read and respond to the work.
Last week, I delivered a training session at Hendon Town Hall for Care Home Managers and Activity Co-Ordinators in the Borough of Barnet. The event was ‘Living well with Dementia.’ It was really well attended and there was a positive response to the session. I gave three groups the same poem – which was a winter themed poem by Walter de la Mare. They were all assigned different tasks. This gave them an insight into the various ways that the same poem can be used, with a range of residents & service users in care settings and more general community venues. This included groups with advanced Dementia. It was really interesting hearing their responses and what they had learnt.
Creative Writes team member, Adam Wilsher has been working hard behind the scenes and we now have a new Community Page on our website, which showcases some of the work we do in Care Homes, Community & Arts Centres and the Creative Projects we have delivered: http://www.creativewrites.co.uk/community/
Adam and I have also joined forces to offer a Creative Content Service for Business. Read all about it here on the new Creative Writes web page: http://www.creativewrites.co.uk/creative-content/
